Hanhart is a German manufacturer that specialized in producing chronographs for the German Air Force, including the Luftwaffe in World War II through the West German Air Force in the 1950s. The Hanhart 417 is a relatively rare watch. It is estimated that only 500 were made in either pure stainless steel (reference 417ES) or chromed brass.

Hanhart 417 ES. It is no secret that I am a big fan of Hanhart Watches and this Hanhart 417 ES is no different. Taking inspiration from the past, Hanhart has recreated the 417 ES, but this one is not the exact same as 1954, beyond just modern material upgrades and of course the movement. No, this one has been modernized to 42mm.

The 417 ES is a piece of living Hanhart tradition. Its fluted bezel rotates smoothly in both directions and its red position markings are reminiscent of the original from the 1950s. The numbers and lettering of the dial in the characteristic bicompax layout as well as the symmetrical button arrangement were also taken from the historical model.
